Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has called on Black Stars coach, Otto Addo to give more consideration to players from the Ghana Premier League.
His plea follows Ghana’s disappointing performance in their initial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they failed to secure a win in their first two matches.
The Black Stars faced a setback last week Thursday, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium.
Their struggles continued with a late goal conceded against Niger in their second Group F match on Monday at Stade Municipal de Berkane.
These results have left Ghana in 3rd place in the group, with just one point from two games.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Agyemang-Badu, a U-20 World Cup winner, criticized the lack of cohesion and aggressiveness in the team’s play.
He emphasized that there seems to be a lack of urgency and commitment and urged Otto Addo to give more chance to the local players.
“There is no cohesion, no aggressiveness and slow passing,” he told Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite.
“It looks like there is nothing at stake we should play, whatever happens, happens.
“Normally it is difficult for me to talk about players because of the background I am from but in fact, there is a lot to do if this is how it is going to be.”
He further urged coach Otto Addo to consider integrating local players into the squad.
“We will plead with the coach [Otto Addo] to consider local players and even if they go and lose I think Ghanaians will accept it.”
Ghana will continue their AFCON qualifying campaign against Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in October, with the first leg set for October 7 at Baba Yara Stadium and the return leg on October 15 at Al-Merrikh Stadium.
