Competition Is Needed To Make Internet Data More Affordable – NITA

Director General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) Richard Okyere-Fosu has entreated the National Communication Authority (NCA), to spearhead competition among the telecommunication companies in order to help bring data charges down.

He told Johnnie Hughes in an interview on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that though the survey shows that Ghana has a competitive telecommunication industry, it is incumbent on the regulator to stimulate more competition which in turn will compel the service providers to reduce their charges.

“From the last survey I saw, Ghana was competitive, and it can be better so obviously sometimes the way you do these things is that if we drive competition, the prices would come down. So that is what we need to focus on. NCA needs to focus on doing this to make sure that we drive the competition” he said could help bring down the cost of data further.

According to the Director General, Ghana is ready for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and people are already dealing with it without even knowing. “When you say is Ghana ready? Ghana has been ready. People have been interacting with AI applications and my point is AI is here to improve. Just like any new technology you can use it for good and you can use it for bad.
