The Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has rubbished reports by CODEO, citing him for violence at the just ended Assin North by-election.
In a statement released by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), portions read “a convoy of vehicles with NPP occupants, accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), pursued a vehicle occupied by NDC supporters from a different polling station to D/C Primary School in Praso (located within the Electoral Area with Polling Station Code B170801).”
Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has emphatically denied claims, saying that the reportage is false and doesn’t even make sense.
Speaking on Movement In The Morning Show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio, the Ashanti ‘governor’ told Kwaku Dawuro that ” tell CODEO to stop the one-sided report. Is CODEO trying to say that they didn’t see the NDC busing vigilantes at New Ebudiase to voting centers. In any case, if I had bused vigilantes to cause mayhem like CODEO said, how come they were no violence recorded at the NDC strongholds but rather at the strongholds of the NPP? Does that mean I bused vigilantes to cause mayhem in our own strongholds? This doesn’t make sense. They should come back again”.
Adding that “be transparent and truthful in your reportage. I don’t even move around with a driver, to talk more of bodyguards. So, I was surprised when I saw heard the report from CODEO about me causing mayhem during the Assin north by-election”.
He explained that right from 1992 NDC is a party known for election violence so there’s no way CODEO could cite the NPP for election violence and exclude the NDC. “In any case, it’s not true that I perpetrated violence during the by-election”.
