Chief Supports Calls For More Appointments For Ashanti MPs But Says, “Reward Chairman Wontumi First”

A renowned Chief, Baffour Oteatuoso Kokoben II, has called on the victorious New Patriotic Party( NPP) to reward the hardworking Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako for the strenuous efforts he made that helped the NPP to secure another four years to rule the country.

According to the Chief, a statement by the Member of Parliament for Assin North, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong that, “President Akufo-Addo should give more appointments to the Ashanti Region MPs is reasonable.”

However, Nana Oteatuoso in an interview on Wontumi Radio/TV on Monday strongly held the view that the NPP should first of all consider rewarding Chairman Wontumi.
“His efforts, dedication and commitment to the party guaranteed us the needed victory.” He said
According to him Chairman Wontumi toiled and was even prepared to shed his blood for the NPP to win the election’
“ I’m expecting the leadership to reward him. If you reward someone it motivates him to work even harder.” He told Oheneba Nana Asiedu, the host of the Morning Show

The Akwanserehene of Akyem Kwabeng, said that, if people are of the opinion that Ashantis won the elections for the NPP, then “Chairman Wontumi was the Chief architect if they don’t know.

Appointment Of Ministers.

The NPP sympathizer said that, the votes Ashantis gave to Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP were overwhelming.

Nana Oteatuoso Kokoben II said that, he has endorsed the call by some people to President Akufo-Addo to give more Ashanti MPs appointment in his new government but quickly added that he should be careful in doing so because some of his appointees from the Region were disappointing – they didn’t help their constituents and by extension, the government.

“Akufo-Addo in his outgoing government honoured several Ashantis with juicy appointments but due to the bad human relations some of them exhibited they failed to perform. This created room for people not to even appreciate the relevance of the developmental projects sited in their area because the appointees distanced themselves from them.” He bemoaned.

He stressed that, some of the appointees were egoistic and thus, failed miserably in relating to the people at the grassroots.
“They adopted the habit of not picking calls from their own constituents even in situations when the message they may have for them is urgent let alone visiting them.”

Nana Oteasuoso Kokoben II however, suggested that it’s still crucial that the party, despite the failure on the part of its appointees, which is a challenge, re-focuses its attention on Kumasi to develop it rapidly to a level befitting its status as Ghana’s second largest city.
“The Boankra Inland Port, for instance, should also be completed promptly to give the Region a major facelift.” He said

The Akyem royal is hopeful that, Nana Addo-Dankwa will continue to work in partnership with the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II in every move he makes to transform the Region as expected.
