Chelsea have confirmed midfielder Romeo Lavia will miss the remainder of the 2023/24 season due to injury.
Lavia was one of many signings made by Chelsea during the 2023 transfer window, with the Belgium international turning down advances from Liverpool to make a £58m move to Stamford Bridge.
Since leaving Southampton, however, things haven’t gone to plan for Lavia. The midfielder missed the first four months of the 2023/24 season with an ankle injury suffered in training back in September and, following just 32 minutes of Premier League action, he once again limped off with a muscle ailment in a win over Crystal Palace at the end of December.
Lavia has been out of action ever since and, following a recent assessment of his recovery, the club have confirmed he will be out of action for the remainder of the current campaign.
Their statement reads: “Midfielder Romeo Lavia is to unfortunately miss the remainder of our 2023/24 campaign following a setback in his recovery.
Recent medical assessments have confirmed that Lavia, who sustained a significant thigh injury against Crystal Palace back in December, will not feature again this season.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have dealt with a myriad of injury concerns throughout the season, leading to huge underperformance in the Premier League. The Blues are currently rooted in mid-table despite spending around £1bn on new players in recent years.
