The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Great Consolidated Popular Party, Kofi Owusu Omar, has heaped praise on the current Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission and in the process described her immediate predecessor as a failure.

Mr. Owusu Omar’s praise follows the well-organized 2020 general elections that saw Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo retained as President of Ghana.

In an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show, the GCPP Chairman noted that Jean Adukwei Mensa deserves commendation for her timely interactions with all political parties and Ghanaians during the electoral process.

He however could not say same of Charlotte Osei who once chaired the commission. According to Kofi Owusu Omar, when Charlotte Osei was once appointed to head the EC, she failed to establish a good relationship with political parties and never conducted herself well during meetings.

“Charlotte Osei is a very nice woman but our meetings with her made me realized that she was not fit to occupy that office. We had a meeting with her at Golden Tulip and she arrived very late. It was about 5 or 10 minutes to closing time and when the meeting ended, she didn’t even stay behind, she just went away”, the GCPP Chairman recounted.

He however quipped that a predecessor of Charlotte Osei, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, distinguished himself by having a good rapport with all political parties.

“We have had occasions to meet Afari Gyan when he was the Commissioner. Aside being the Chairperson at that time, he was in charge of meeting political figures from the Volta and Ashanti region for workshops. He ate with us and had a very good relationship with us. It tells you he knew his work. When you compare that to Charlotte Osei, she is lost”, he said.
