Mr. Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey, has equated the respect President Akufo-Addo has for Chairman Wontumi to that of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
According to the Kumasi Technical University lecturer, President Akufo-Addo’s recent tour to the Ashanti region proved he holds the Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in higher esteem leading to the accolades he showered on him before the Asantehene.
Speaking on Wontumi TV, Mr. Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey stated that “there are three things Nana Akufo-Addo gave to Chairman Wontumi. One, is the recognition of the fact that he is a regional chairman. Calling him ‘Chairman 1’ is like giving respect to the IGP when he is coming…He called him famous as well”, he said.
President Nana Akufo-Addo christened Bernard Antwi-Boasiako as the most famous regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.
The President, in introducing Mr. Antwi-Boasiako to the Asantehene at Palace at Manhyia, stated that “with me is the Regional Chairman, famous Chairman 1- Wontumi”.
The commendation and subtle endorsement by President Akufo-Addo on Chairman Wontumi for him to continue to lead the party in the Ashanti region, can be linked to the victory he ensured the Ashanti region brought to the table in the 2020 election.
It would be recalled that under the leadership of Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti region gave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 1,795, 824 as against the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 653,149.
