CAS Dismisses George Afriyie Appeal- Ex GFA Vice “Takes Decision In Good Faith”

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has responded after having his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the GFA dismissed.

Afriyie was disqualified after failing to secure enough GFA members’ signatures to his candidature when filing his nomination form.

He appealed the decision but the Elections Committee’s disqualification was upheld by the Appeals Committee forcing Afriyie to pursue the case outside the GFA’s jurisdiction.

The ruling was communicated on Monday, May 6 almost eight months after George Afriyie filed his appeal with CAS. The 2023 GFA Elections were held on October 5 in Tamale with incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku securing 117 out of 120 votes.

Reacting to the news, George Afriyie stated that, “The CAS, in their decision, have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA. I take the decision in good faith.”
