The New Patriotic Party’s “breaking the eight” mantra, which appears to be dominating all conversations by party members since the last election victory has again resonated at the ongoing national Delegates conference in Accra.
With the election of the national executive election being seen as the last but one of the last hardest roads to travel that could make or break the party, delegates at the event who spoke on the various media platforms kept making references to the Rubicon and how a successful conference could bring the party closer to achieving that objective.
The Adansi North District Chief Executive, Hon Eric Kwaku Kusi, who was speaking on Movement TV urged his fellow delegates to protect the unity of the party as anything to the contrary could derail the gradual progress towards crossing the rubicon.
“Our mission here is to work towards breaking the eight so no violent acts should be recorded so that at the end of the day, victory could be ours.”
Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser Nana Ama Ampomaa appealed to Ghanaians to be appreciative of what the NPP government has achieved by boosting the ruling party’s approval rating.
She noted, “At the peak of the COVID 19 teachers stayed out of the classroom yet the government acting in good faith ensured the regular payment of their salaries”.
According to her, this was not the situation in other countries and wished Ghanaians would commend the government for its support during those hard times.
Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrano, Hon Vincent Asafua, who spoke on the same Movement TV platform called on party members to throw their weight behind any of the candidates who would be elected at the Conference.
“Our battle readiness would imply that we are going to confront our common enemy with a renewed strength residing in our unity and common purpose.” Said Hon Asafua, one of the youngest MP’s in the House said.
Deputy Minister of Defence , Hon Kofi Amankwa Manu for his part said electing the NPP’s national executives successfully, would determine the strength with which the ruling party would go for the 2024 elections.
