Former Ghana international, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has expressed concerns about the Black Stars’ current trajectory under coach Otto Addo.
Agyemang-Badu’s remarks come in the wake of the senior national team’s disappointing start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium last Thursday.
Their difficulties continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger in their second Group F match on Monday in Berkane, Morocco.
These results have left Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, in third place in their group with only one point after two matches.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Agyemang-Badu, who previously played for Asante Kotoko and Udinese Calcio, expressed skepticism about the current direction of the team.
“With the kind of quality players we have and we switch three or four passes together to this extent that even when took the lead, Niger dominated the ball possession and had 16 shots and on target three and we played six shots and on target three and after the game, the Black Stars got one corner,” Agyemang-Badu, who is a FIFA U-20 World Cup winner said on Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite.
He further criticized the team’s performance, saying, “I don’t think where we are going is in the right direction. We have been playing in the finals. Now we are getting eliminated at the group stage and at the moment, we are struggling to even qualify from our group.
“I think things are getting tougher for us,” he added.
Ghana will continue their AFCON qualifying campaign with a doubleheader against Sudan, managed by Kwesi Appiah, in October.
