Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has called on Black Stars coach Otto Addo to take a firmer stance and make bold decisions amid the national team’s recent struggles.
Sannie Daara, who also serves as a Senior CAF Media Officer, voiced his concerns following the Black Stars’ disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Despite mounting pressure on Addo and his technical staff due to the team’s poor results, Sannie Daara believes the issues are not rooted in coaching. Instead, he urged Addo and his team to make tough decisions by dropping underperforming players, which he believes would help the team get back on track.
“I don’t believe the coaching is the Black Stars’ problem. This same coach (Otto Addo) led us to beat Nigeria. We went to the World Cup and beat South Korea even though we suffered an early elimination,” he told Asempa FM.
“I still believe that the team did creditably well, but it doesn’t mean that we should be mute if the coach is not getting things right.”
He continued, “I know there are issues about our goalkeeping department, but what are the options? I believe that Otto Addo must be bold in his decision-making and drop players who don’t perform.
“He must make sure that he preaches to the players that there are options. The players must come together as a unit and do the needful,” he added.
Ghana will continue their AFCON qualifiers later this month, aiming to secure a spot in the 2025 tournament in Morocco. The Black Stars will first travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15, before hosting Niger Republic three days later.
Currently, the Black Stars are third in Group F with just two points from four matches, trailing both Angola and Sudan.
