The Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, has appealed to Dr Bawumia to consider the nomination of Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare as his running mate.
As a grassroot leader, the Ahafo Regional Chairman stated that the masses are clamoring for a woman to partner their 2024 flagbearer.
“If you ask me, I’ve heard a lot of names. The likes of Adutwum, Hon Mathew Opoku Prempeh amongst others. I’m pleading that we do not put him under any form of pressure because as grassroots, we are in the known of what the mass perceives and are saying, so we beseech them to choose a woman which I believe no one possesses such aforementioned qualities than Akosuah Fremah Opare”, he said in an interview with some journalists.
Accomplishments
Kwabena Owusu Sekyere described Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare as a woman who has occupied some attainable positions such as being Member of Parliament, working as a Minister of state and currently serving as Chief of Staff.
“So that alone makes her knowledgeable of the New Patriotic Party. She served as a Minister during the tenure of former President Kufuor, as well as an MP”.
Battle of ladies
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has settled on a woman as running mate but her record, according to Mr. Owusu Sekyere doesn’t compare to Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
“I’ve already stated that we have ladies in this country, and the NDCs have opted for a lady as their running mate but there is a vast difference when you compare her to Akosuah Fremah Opare”.
The NDC’s running mate according to him “is not an intellect when it comes to politics because she’s a teacher by profession but politically, Frema is more matured in all aspects.”
Ashanti factor
He made a passionate appeal to Dr Bawumia to settle on Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare since she comes from Ashanti region.
Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare hails from Antoa and Wiamoase which in Chairman Sekyere’s view, “makes her a member of the Ashanti Kingdom”.
“We would once again plead for the running mate to come from Ashanti Region where the heart of the party is. If it will be concluded that a woman should occupy the position, then Dr Bawumia and President Akufo- Addo should intervene and i believe the council will duly accept it”, he said.
