A Political Science Lecturer with the University of Education, Winneba, has warned that if there isn’t a change in strategy in the way Parliament operates, the Speaker of Parliament and some Members of Parliament would enter their graves with bad reputations.
Dr. Isaac Brako, spoke on Wontumi TV and explained that with the open disrespect parliamentarians are showing to each other, it would be harder for them to hold citizens for contempt when speak ill against them.
“Can parliament cite anyone for contempt? Have they been able to punish their own members who are misbehaving? Someone went to carry the Speaker’s chair and he went unpunished”, he asked.
Dr. Isaac Brako continued that the 8th Parliament is gaining notoriety for violence and that would affect the Speaker, Alban Bagbin’s image for the rest of his life.
He added that previous parliament before the one we currently have, never traded blows when both sides disagreed.
