Speaker of Parliament and Minority leader have connived and are shortchanging journalists at Parliament House when it comes to issuing stipends to them popularly known as ‘soli’.
The Bono Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, stated on Wontumi TV that Speaker Alban Bagbin and Haruna Iddrisu had become tight partners amassing wealth meant for journalists by organizing series of press conferences.
“Every press conference they hold at Parliament, they use state money to pay them. Anytime you hear that the minority are holding a press conference, Bagbin gives them GHC150,000 as budget”, Abronye said.
He however added that out of the GHC150,000, journalists are only given a paltry GHC200 each whilst the NDC legislators including the Speaker of Parliament, pocket the rest.
