The Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has emphatically predicated victory for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential election.
“Automatically Ashanti region is for Bawumia… I am not surprised Bawumia has won the primaries”, he respectfully said as he weighed the chances of the vice president against that of other candidates that have expressed interest in vying for the flagbearership position.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie revealed that there are more than 30 legislators from the Ashanti region who are solidly behind Dr. Bawumia.
Touching on the relevance of the Ashanti region and the role it can play in electing Bawumia as flagbearer, the Effiduase Asokore legislator stated that “Adu Boahen won Ashanti region and went on to win the nation election within the party. Kufuor won support from Ashanti region before winning the national election…he got majority of MPs and support from Ashanti region and we went on to win. Akufo-Addo got MPs and Ashanti region support and went on to win the elections.”
He went on to highlight the impact of Bawumia’s contribution towards the victory of the NPP in the 2020 elections.
“If not for Bawumia, Nana Addo would have won the presidency but we would have lost the parliamentary. Go to the northern region now, we have 16 seats, NDC has 15- prior to this we only had 3 seats”, he said.
