The smell of defeat is choking former President John Mahama and that is the reason he has launched an unprovoked attack on the Judiciary, Chairman Wontumi has said.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party described the attack on the third arm of government as nauseating and distasteful and called on the 2020 flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to render an unqualified apology to the Judicial service and its head, Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah.

Former President John Dramani Mahama says it will take a new Chief Justice to lead the process to repair what he said was the “badly dented image” of Ghana’s judiciary for people to win the trust in the system.

For him, the deteriorated image of the judiciary easily sparks laughter from the citizenry when one decides to go to the court for justice.

Former President Mahama made the statement at the opening of the 2nd Annual Lawyers Conference of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday August 28, 2022.

“If people are not poking fun about politics and inducement being used to sway the hand of justice in the lower courts then it is poking fun and making statements about the 7:0 of the the unanimous FC. Verdicts which mostly involve cases of a political nature in our Supreme court, this is an unfortunate but serious development.”

But responding to his claim, Chairman Wontumi stated that John Mahama knows election 2024 would not go well for his party and is scheming to push that blame on the judiciary hence his vitriolic.

“There is already a credible research out there that points to a defeat for the NDC if John Mahama should lead them. He knows that and it is the reason he has started the attacks on the judiciary. He smells defeat in the air and that is giving him nightmares”, Chairman Wontumi said.
