The younger brother of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Dr Cadman Mills, is appealing to authorities to bring back the mortal remains of the late President to Cape Coast.
According to him, Cape Coast was so dear to the late head of state and for his soul to be at eternal peace, his remains must be brought to the Central Region capital city.
He cited how the remains of first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah are buried in his hometown of Nkroful though the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra is representative of his resting place.
The late President Atta Mills became the first sitting head of state of Ghana to die in office.
He died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 while serving his tenure as the 3rd President of the Fourth Republic.
He died exactly 10 years ago at the 37 Military Hospital.
Speaking on the sideline of his installation as the Family Head of Nkuma Kyereba Twidan of Cape Coast, Dr Cadman Mills, who served in his brother’s administration between 2009 and 2012, said left to him alone, the late professor “should have been brought home”.
“Left to me alone,” he stated in Fante in an interview with Onua FM‘s Kwame Kakraba, “I would say Fiifi [Atta Mills] must come home. His body, his mind, his everything should come home.”
He, however, noted the complexity in seeing this wish come to pass owing to the statesmanship of the late president.
Dr Mills, nonetheless, indicated that the family is weighing options to see if this can be a reality because of the controversies that surround his death each and every year it is marked.
He cried over the incessant comments made by persons who are not even close to the family, insisting that the family would wish eternal peace for their late brother and son.
This must be settled once and for all, he demanded.
