Assembly Members Must Be Gainfully Employed – Hon. Nyarko
Mr. Richard Nyarko, the Assemblyman for Deduako/ Apemso Electoral area
in the Oforikrom constituency has urged Assembly members and those
aspiring to represent their constituents in the various local
Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure that
they are fully employed and economically sound before vying to become
a member of the Assembly.
According to him, there are a lot of requirements that go in for one
to succeed as an Assemblyman in terms of improving the socio-economic
development of the constituents.
He stated in an interview that an unemployed Assemblyman
would find it challenging to address some of the basic
needs of his/her electoral area.
He reminded colleague assembly members and aspirants that the work of
the assembly member is sacrificial and explained that sometimes the
assemblyman as a leader would be compelled to provide some form of
assistance or help an individual from his resources to impact on
the beneficiary.
He noted that in such a situation an unemployed assemblyman would be
found wanting in his role to deliver in this aspect of addressing a
need without recourse to the general assembly.
Mr. Nyarko buttressing this position claimed he had complemented
efforts of the Municipal Assembly in various ways especial with regards
helping individuals with admission to Senior High Schools.
According to him, he has had to provide chop boxes besides financial
support for some vulnerable and less privileged in the electoral area.
The Deduako/Apemso assemblyman disclosed that he has initiated
measures in the area of drainage, security and education for the
implementation of the Assembly to ensure the total development of the
area. END
