Ashesi Lecturer Calls For Support For Teachers To Become Technologically Savvy.

 

Dr Heather Beem, Chief Executive Officer of Practical Education Network, Ashesi University says there is the need for teachers to be supported to incorporate online technologies into their work especially at the basic and secondary levels.

Speaking about Ghana’s education modules at the 30th Executive Breakfast Meeting held by MTN, the lecturer called for a relook at how teachers are trained in the country.

Speaking on the topic; Redefining Education in the age of the new normal, Dr. Heather Beem; CEO of Practical Education Network, Ashesi University stressed the need for commitment to change as the rest of the world changes. “Don’t let this moment pass us by, let’s join in the changing world that is here and evolve” she emphasized.

Dr. Beem also highlighted the need to support teachers incorporate online technology into their work and also the importance of hands-on practical work into education.

The 30th MTN Business Breakfast Meeting and the final for the year 2020 was held virtually, streaming live on MTN Ghana’s Facebook page (mtnghana) and on YouTube (@mtnghana).

In an era where social distancing, online business, education and transactions are becoming the norm, many are still hopeful that things will return to normal.

To shed light on the theme and insights on the new forms of accessing education and the sustainability of same after the pandemic, seasoned professionals in the education space spoke to the theme.

Anis Haffar, an Educationist & Founder GATE Institute, Dr. Heather Beem- CEO, Practical Education Network, Ashesi University, Christa Elise Sanders Bobtoya, Campus Director, Webster University, Ghana and Dr. Peter Amoako Yirenkyi- Senior Lecturer- Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology shared their experiences and insights on the theme.
