Ashanti Regional Minister Challenges Mahama To Openly Declare What Is wrong About The Free SHS
Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, has challenged the flagbearer of NDC, John Mahama to explain to Ghanaians his problems with the free Senior High School policy which he wants to correct if he comes back to power.
“John Mahama doesn’t understand the policy. He once said that if he had Ghc2billion he would l not invest in the SHS. So what has changed for him to make a U-turn?” He questioned
According to him, the former President for instance , did not quite understand the relevance of the double track system and why it was introduced before he criticized it by saying if he comes to power again he would eradicate it.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Radio/TV on Monday, Hon. Osei Mensah recalled that, the government introduced the double track system as way of opening the doors for as many qualified students as possible to access the programme.
But according to the Regional Minister, ‘the government is determined to phase out the Double Track system in four or five years time.
He re-emphasized that as part of the measures to phase it out as early as possible the government is constructing 278 schools to curb the double track system.
He urged Ghanaians to disregard the utterances of John Mahama that he would review the free SHS policy and also bring on board the private schools to benefit from it, adding that, even in the advanced countries where it was first implemented private schools are exempted.”
.Hon. Osei Mensah stressed that, Private schools should not give ears to John Mahama’s assurances because in 2007/2008 he promised to include them in the capitation grant but he failed to implement it when he had the opportunity to rule the country..
He urged Ghanaians to continuously thank God for giving Nana Akufo-Addo to the county.
The Ashanti Regional Minister who sounded emotional heaped praises on Akufo-Addo, for not giving up on the free SHS promise upon all the challenges that came his way before he became President to implement his pet project which has earned him a lot of international respect.
