Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp has stated that Premier League side Arsenal might not offer Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey a new contract despite his brilliant performances for the club in the 2024/2025 season.
According to him, the club will look to bolster their midfield with other players who fit their long-term profile instead of extending Partey’s contract.
The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder noted that the Gunners will need a better player for the defensive midfield role, potentially shifting Declan Rice to play there when needed.
Speaking on Sky Sports as a pundit, Redknapp suggested that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi could be an option to replace Partey when he leaves.
“I’m interested to see what happens with him next season. Right now, he’s in a great moment, scoring goals and assisting. Thomas Partey’s contract is ending, and I don’t think he’s going to sign another year. Will they bring Declan Rice into a number six position?
“I think if you asked him, he wouldn’t rather play there. He’s got two attributes, and they’ve got many great players in that midfield position. If you bring in Zubimendi, obviously, he’s a super talent as well,” he said.
Partey has had an injury-free season, playing 45 matches, scoring four goals, and providing three assists to aid the English club.
The club has yet to offer a renewal as the Black Stars midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the 2024/2025 season.
