A lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Samuel Afriyie has strongly condemned President Mahama’s description of Ghana as a “crime scene” during former President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Speaking on Wontumi TV, Dr. Afriyie argued that if President Mahama genuinely believes Ghana is a crime scene, he should take concrete action against economic criminals, rather than just making rhetorical statements.
Dr. Afriyie questioned President Mahama’s awareness of the country’s economic struggles, which he had highlighted in his campaign manifesto. “Didn’t he know that the economy wasn’t good? He included that in his manifesto as part of his campaign strategies. If it’s a crime scene, then arrest the economic criminals, Mr. President.” he said.
Dr. Afriyie criticized President Mahama’s approach to addressing economic issues, citing the example of convincing the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to accept a 10% salary increment due to the perceived poor state of the economy. “He used this strategy to convince the TUC to accept a meager 10% salary increment, thinking that the economy was in shambles,” Dr. Afriyie said. “But after such a low increment, President Mahama has gone ahead to sack people from their jobs, further exacerbating economic hardship.”
Dr. Afriyie’s statement is a call to action, urging President Mahama to take concrete steps to address these issues and hold economic criminals accountable.
