Anti-Apartheid South African Bishop, Desmond Tutu Dies @ 90
“We are saddened to report the death news of South African cleric Desmond Tutu. As per the sources, the Bishop has reportedly passed away at the age of 90. The unfortunate news has been surfacing online where everyone is paying Mr Tutu a tribute. The news was announced by the Bishop of Johannesburg, Stephen Moreo. Stephen took to his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, to share the saddening news with the public. Ever since the news came to light, searches have started to begin regarding the death cause of Desmond Tutu.
While announcing Mr Tutu death news, Stephen Moreo wrote on his Twitter account “Attention” and informed that the Anglican Diocese of Johannesburg has recieved the sad news of the death of the dearest Archibishop Desmond Tutu. The official not further stated that the most reverend Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu died aged 90. The news brought a wave of sadness among all the people. They took to their further social media accounts to pay the bishop a heartfelt tribute. Who Was Desmond Tutu?
Desmond Tutu was a South African Anglican cleric and theological. He was known for his work as a human rights activist and anti-apartheid. Besides, from 1985 to 1986, Desmond was also the Bishop of Johannesburg. Later, he became the Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa’s capital, from 1986 to 1996. In both the mentioned case, Desmond was the first black African to hold the positition. Born on October 7, 1931, in Klerksdorp, South Africa, he married Nomalizo Leah Tutu in 1955. He had several children with the marriage.
He was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1960 and later in 1962, he was moved to the UK where he studied theology at King’s London College. In 1972, he became the Theological Education Fund’s director for Africa which was a position based in London. Tutu was also the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. His sudden death has gotten everyone devastated and they have been mourning his death on social media platforms. However, Desmond Tutu cause of death has not been revealed yet. Looking at his age, it is speculated that he might have died of natural causes. However, no official confirmation from his family have come forward as of now regarding the death cause.
