The youth of Techiman in the Bono East region of Ghana is pursuing two gay partners for their sordid acts of homosexuality.
The angry youth in Takofiano, a suburb of Techiman, has threatened to deal with Fuseini Salifu, a
Computer Engineer and his gay partner and long-time school friend, Ahmed Anwar Sadat.
LGBT rights are heavily suppressed in Ghana.
Gay sex is illegal in highly religious and conservative Ghana but while discrimination against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people are common in the West African nation, no one has ever been prosecuted under the colonial-era law.
As such, Physical and violent homophobic attacks against LGBT people are common and it is often encouraged by the media and religious and political leaders.
Reports of young gay people being kicked out of their homes are also common.
Early this month, Fuseini Salifu was caught in the act of engaging in homosexuality with his friend Anwar.
Salifu’s mother reportedly raised an alarm about the sordid act she found her son and his friend involved in.
Sensing danger, Fuseini Salifu managed to escape the wrath of the youth and has since not been seen in the locality.
The house of Anwar has also been vandalised with a threat to come back to deal with him and the household whenever he is seen.
Efforts by the family and relatives to trace him have proved futile.
Salifu’s junior brother, Hafix Mohammed, 34, has complained to the Techiman police about the unknown whereabouts of Salifu.
Meanwhile, the Techiman police have since November 13, 2022, issued a police extract regarding the search for Salifu through a public announcement in the local media.
