Angry KATH Worker Writes : We Need Someone Who Can Do The Work Not Just Someone From Komfo Anokye

Tension Around The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital CEO Selection

I write to express my views on the tension surrounding the agitation by less than 1% of the staffs of KATH concerning the CEO position.

First and foremost, there are some stickers filed at some places with inscription, ‘KATH DESERVES NEW CEO BUT WE NEED ONE OF OUR OWN’ AND ‘ NO KATH STAFF, NO CEO! WE ARE CAPABLE OF MANAGING OUR OWN AFFAIRS BY STAFF OF KATH’ and many more is a total dishonesty to the service.

The first question is how is the CEO appointed? According to the Ghana Health Service and Teaching hospital ACT, 1996 Section 39(1) There shall be appointed by the board of a Teaching Hospital a Chief Administrator of the hospital who shall be the chief executive officer and who shall be responsible for the day to day administration of the teaching hospital.

In light of the above, we can deduce that it is silent on the one to select but over the years precedent have shown that people with some clinical knowledge are always preferred because of the nature of the work. The clinical knowledge not limited to practicing in the clinic but both academics.

There has been a lot of instances where non KATH staffs have served in various positions with some currently serving, so those chanting the mantra of NO KATH STAFF, NO CEO, why are they blind on that.

Below is some CEOs who has served at KATH and where they came from:
Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare – Tamale
Prof Ohene Agyei- KNUST
Dr. Akpalu – KNUST
Dr. Oheneba Danso – KATH

That’s the succession.

Meanwhile, the current Director of Nursing, current Director of Administration and current Director of finance were not KATH Staff but were given opportunity to serve at KATH.

The proponents of this baseless noise should be more concerned about who will make KATH better than what it is today and not some selfish agenda.
