Akufo-Addo’s contribution to NHIS is very historic- CEO, NHIS

“What the Akufo-Addo government has done in NHIS is very historic ” Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Dacosta Aboagye has said.

This, he said, is because the Akufo-Addo led administration has settled all arrears, to bolster quality healthcare delivery.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on 4th September, 2024, Mr Aboagye touted president Akufo-Addo’s contribution towards the initiative and the health sector.

“President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia prioritize our health. With concerted efforts, they want to ensure quality healthcare delivery. When facilities were charging and there was a delay in payment, we petitioned the president and his vice” he said.

“They ordered the finance minister to release funds so that we can settle arrears from January to June. As I speak, we have paid all debts from January to May, and we have told them to submit their claims. This action is unprecedented.

” When did you ever hear in our history that the NHIS asked facilities providers to submit their claims so that it can be addressed?” He quizzed.

“Let me say that what Akufo-Addo’s leadership has done is very historic” he emphasized.
He further commended the ruling NPP for effectively navigating the NHIS amid the nation’s economic challenges.

He also revealed that the NHIS has successfully enrolled 17.8 million active beneficiaries.
