Akufo-Addo Accepts Oteng-Gyasi’s Resignation As GRA Board Chair

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Anthony Oteng-Gyasi as Board Chair of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Dr Oteng-Gyasi’s resignation was followed by the dissolution of the board of GRA.

President Akufo-Addo subsequently appointed Madam Julie Essiam as the new Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

She replaces Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah. Until her appointment, Madam Julie Essiam was the Commissioner responsible for the Support Services Division of the GRA.

President Akufo-Addo appointed Dr Oteng-Gyasi as the Board Chair of the Ghana Revenue Authority, (GRA) in August 2021.

The former President of the Association of Ghana Industries, and Managing Director and Chairman of Tropical Cable and Conductor Ltd replaced Professor Stephen Adei as the Chair of the Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) who served as Board Chair from 2019 to 2021.

The dissolved GRA Board had Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi as the board chairman, while, Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Mad. Adelaide Ahwireng, Prof. Peter Ohene Kyei, Mr. Kwabena Boaten, Mrs. Dela Obeng-Sakyi, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei as members.

Profile of Tony Oteng-Gyasi

Dr Tony Oteng-Gyasi was the President of the Association of Ghana Industries, and Managing Director and Chairman of Tropical Cable and Conductor Ltd, a wholly Ghanaian-owned manufacturer of electrical cables.

Dr Oteng-Gyasi was born on 15th February 1955 and was educated at the University of Ghana and the Ghana Law School in Economics.

Dr Oteng-Gyasi began his career at the Research Department of the Bank of Ghana. He subsequently joined the Ghana Operation of British Petroleum.

After spending nine years working with British Petroleum (BP) in Ghana in various executive marketing positions, he resigned in 1986 to set up his first company, a successful trading company, Tropical Products Ltd.

In 1997, he set up the Cable Manufacturing Company, called Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited, which he nurtured to become a successful trading and manufacturing firm, with the active assistance of Empretec Ghana.

In 2007, he again set up the only continuous casting and rolling factory for the production of EC Grade Aluminium Rod in West Africa. The company, Western Rod & Wire Ltd. has become a source of raw material for aluminium conductor manufacturers in the region.

Dr Oteng-Gyasi is a recipient of several awards and has been a member of the Council of the Ghana Stock Exchange, and the Council of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He is the immediate past Chairman of the University of Ghana Council. He holds a degree in Economics and a Certificate in Law from the University of Ghana. He also has a diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, and is a member of the Ghana Bar Association.
