Akua Donkor Snatches Microphone To Speak ‘Twi’ At An ‘English-Speaking’ National Forum On Galamsey
Madam Akua Donkor leader the of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), who is attending the National Consultative Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining in Accra flared up on Thursday, when she was denied the opportunity to share her opinion on a topic on illegal mining because she could not speak English.
In what nearly resulted in an altercation, Akua Donkor broke protocol by snatching the microphone after realizing that she had deliberately been prevented from mounting the rostrum to make a contribution because of her language barrier.
Her combative nature paid off as she had the opportunity after seizing the microphone to bare her thoughts – by speaking coherently in Twi, her mother tongue
Dramatically Madam Akua Donkor’s contribution made a lot of sense thus earning her prolonged applause from the gathering, mostly technocrats from far and near some in customized suits.
Akua Donkor told Wontumionline.com Correspondent in Accra that the organizers are short sighted in limiting the conference to only those who can deliver their statements or make speeches in English at the expense of the less privilege who are linguistically challenged when it comes to speaking the Queen’s language.
She said sidelining the attendees in her “deprived category” most of them farmers is regrettable because the issues about illegal small scale mining is a grass roots matter not academic or big, big English .
