The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare, has called for stronger institutions, accountability, and innovative leadership to drive effective governance and public sector transformation across Africa.
Speaking at the Africa Governments Summit & Public Sector Innovation Awards 2026 held at the Accra Marriott Hotel, the former Deputy Finance Minister delivered the opening keynote address, stressing that Africa’s development largely depends on the strength and credibility of its public institutions.
Addressing policymakers, government officials and development partners from across the continent, Ms. Osei Asare highlighted the urgent need for African governments to prioritise institutional excellence as a foundation for sustainable development.
The summit, which brought together distinguished leaders and experts in governance and public administration, focused on the theme “Driving Institutional Excellence and Public Sector Transformation Across Africa.”
According to the Atiwa East legislator, Africa’s progress requires leaders who are committed to transparency, efficiency and meaningful reforms within the public sector.
She noted that a well-functioning public sector must be built on strong governance structures capable of delivering services that meet the expectations of citizens while promoting accountability.
“Africa’s progress depends largely on the strength of our institutions and the commitment of leaders to champion transparency, efficiency and reform,” she stated.
Ms. Osei Asare also underscored the importance of collaborative platforms that enable African leaders to exchange ideas and share best practices in governance and public sector management.
She said forums such as the summit provide an opportunity for policymakers to learn from one another and work collectively toward improving service delivery and accelerating development across the continent.
The MP commended the organisers of the summit for creating a platform that promotes innovation, excellence and reforms within the public sector.
She urged African governments and public sector leaders to remain committed to building institutions that inspire public confidence, deliver tangible results and support the long-term development aspirations of the continent.
