AFRICAN BANKER AWARDS HELD IN ACCRA
African Banker Awards 2022 was on Wednesday held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
It formed part of the activities marking the five day Africa Development Bank (AfDB) Annual General Meetings on going in Accra. .
Among the 22 awards winners, was ECOBANK which was adjudged the SME Bank of the year.
Also among the winners was Fidelity Bank which was recognized as the best Regional Bank.
Angolan Finance Minister, Madam Esperance dos Santos Daves de Sousa, was adjudged the Finance Minister of ths year.
Another woman of in- ternational repute Madam Vera Songwe, UN Under Secretary and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission of Africa was awarded the Africa Banker Award prize. She is credited for providing governments with the needed funding to deal with the impact of the COVID-19. In the award categories, Yaw Kuffuor, was recognized for his achievements in Trade Finance.
Energy Deal for the year, Award went to the Temane Thermal Power Station while Agriculture deal of the year, on account of a $200 million corporate facility secured for the BUA Industries limited received special honours.
In an address, Mr Omar Ben Yedden, chair of the African Banker Awards Organising Commitee and Publisher of African Banker said it is time African governments focused attention on strengthening domestic capabilities to finance growth.
More than 300 banking and financial services profressionals participated in the gala ceremony which lasted till midnight.
