AFCON 2023: Ghana Could Be Put In Same Group With Algeria, Senegal Or Egypt In Tonight’s Draw

Ghana’s Black Stars will know their opponents for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when the draw for the competition is held on Thursday, October 12.

The Black Stars, who will be looking to end their over 40-year AFCON drought, have been placed in Pot 2, alongside, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso and DR Congo.

There are four posts containing six teams each. A team from each pot will be drawn and spread out from Groups A to F. This will conclude with 6 groups of four teams each representing each pot.

Ghana will have to contend with one of the teams in Pot 1, which consists of defending champions Senegal, together with 2021 finalists, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and hosts Cote D’Ivoire.

Pot 3 includes 1996 champions, South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania and 2012 champions Zambia, who are managed by former Black Stars coach Avram Grant

Pot 4 contains Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, Gambia and Tanzania.

Next year’s competition features no debutants, a testament to the strength and pedigree of the red and on display.

The 2023 AFCON will run from January 13 to February 11 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire
