The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has donated GH₵300,000 to help traders who lost their goods in a fire at the Adum Bluelight Market in Kumasi.
The fire, which happened on Friday, March 21, 2025, destroyed many shops and goods, leaving several traders without a place to work or sell their items. The donation was made on Tuesday, April 22, during the MP’s visit to the market.
Mr. Acheampong expressed his sympathy to the traders and said he understands how hard the situation is for them. He promised to help them get back on their feet. He also said that he is ready to rebuild the market, especially the Blue Light Arena section, which was badly affected.
However, he explained that he would only begin the reconstruction if the Asantehene (the Ashanti king) and the city authorities agree and give him the green light.
“If he [Otumfuo] permits and the assembly permits, I want to rebuild this structure,” Mr Acheampong said, noting that he hopes to put up “a very solid structure” within 12 months.
The traders were happy about the support and thanked the MP for his kind gesture and his promise to help rebuild the market.
This donation and promise of rebuilding bring hope to many traders whose livelihoods were destroyed by the fire.
