The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has sparked controversy with his latest comments. According to him, voting for John Mahama in the upcoming elections is tantamount to endorsing Kevin Taylor’s insults towards the Asantehene.
Chairman Wontumi made these comments in the Atwima-Nwabiagye Constituency as he begins his campaign tour, where he criticized John Mahama for not condemning Kevin Taylor’s actions.
Kevin Taylor, a Ghanaian social media personality, has been known for his controversial and often inflammatory comments, including a recent incident where he insulted the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the traditional King of the Ashanti Kingdom.
“By voting for John Mahama, you have endorsed Kevin Taylor’s disrespect towards our King and traditional leaders,” Chairman Wontumi said. “If John Mahama cannot even condemn such behavior, how can we trust him to lead our country?”
He stated that Ghana is well known for our cultural and moral values and our leaders are icons of integrity and politics have no chance to discredit the credibility of them on any platform.
“As an Ashanti, we believe that Asantehene and Sikadwa have protected us over years, our ancestors have fought many battles just to protect Asante and Sikadwa so we know that anyone who disrespect Asantehene or Sikadwa has become our enemy. If Mahama can sponsor people to attack Otumfuo and Sikadwa it means we have new enemies and we’ll vote against Mahama and his NDC to justify that any day one rises against our King and Sikadwa he/she will never succeed” Chairman Wontumi added
