The Head of Technical for MTN Northern Sector, Charles Osei Akoto has reiterated the importance of education to parents saying it is the best legacy one can bequeath to the child.

He encouraged parents on the need to help their wards to learn hard at all times.

Mr. Osei Akoto Charles was speaking Friday at the Konkoma D/A Basic School to mark the International Literacy Day at the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region.

The celebration brought together chiefs and people of the area, educationists, pupils and MTN staff.

He recounted economic empowerment, education and health as three focal points being embarked upon by the largest telecommunication Network to change the world.

“So this day, we at the MTN decided to celebrate this Literacy Day with the people of Konkoma to improve high literacy rate in the area. We met them, read books with them and we have also distributed books and science sets to be used for experiments,” he noted.

Expressing excitement, the Headmistress of the Konkoma D/A Basic School, Joan Yeboah Sarfo said the participation of the celebration by MTN will encourage parents to ensure their wards are always in school.

“One thing affecting academic work is that the pupils run away to their homes at break time and teachers have to chase them before coming back, ” she complained.

The Headmistress appealed to MTN Ghana to put up a structure for the school to help in teaching and learning.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Chief of the town, Nana Oduro Agyei Panin II urged parents to stop taken their wards to school during contact hours.

He appealed to parents to ensure that their wards learn in the evening any time they close from school.
