A Mother’s Love Is Far Reaching; Rebecca Akufo-Addo Summarises Asantehemaa’s Generosity
Ghana’s First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo has chosen to summarise the generosity of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III with the Akan proverb which says “ɔbaatan na nim neɛ ne mma bɛdi” to wit, “A mother’s love is far reaching”.
She was reacting to the Asantehemaa’s generosity when she paid the medical bills of the patients at the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Paediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the delivery of food items to the same and the Manhyia District Hospital.
Speaking at the climax of celebration of the Asantehemaa’s 5th Enstoolment anniversary at the Grand Awukudae Durbar, the First Lady said, “When i heard that Nana Konadu Yiadon III had paid the medical bills for patients and donated items to mothers whose children had been admitted at Komfo Anokye and Manhyia District Hospitals, i said to myself, ɛyɛ ampa sɛ “ɔbaatan na nim neɛ ne mma bɛdi”.
The first lady also described Nana Konadu Yiadom III as an embodiment of motherhood,a unifier and a driving force for progress, an astute, and the “glue” or “mortar” that holds it all together.
She said, “Today is a celebration of a remarkable woman of Asante, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, an astute, wise, dignified woman who is an embodiment of motherhood. Since her enstoolment, Nana has been a unifier and a driving force for the progress of the Asante Kingdom and a strong advocate and champion for women and children”.
“Congratulations Nana and i wish you of many more impact filled years ”.
On her turn, Nana Konadu Agyemang, wife of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, revealed that Nana Konadu Yiadom is her counsellor and added that the Queen mother has played the exceptional role of a mobiliser, an educator and a model for women and the youth.
The Asantehemaa, the eldest sister of the reigning king of Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, succeeded her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II who passed away on 15 November 2016.
On February 6, 2017, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, was enstooled onto the the Nyarko Kusiamoah and Konadu Yiadom Stool as the 14th Queen of the Asante Kingdom.
The 10-days celebration of the anniversary began on February 6 this year with a thanksgiving service and a durbar attended by dignitaries including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nana Konadu Yiadom III herself, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of Asantehene, traditional rulers, state officials and gospel musicians.
The ceremony themed “The Role Of The Contemporary Queen Mother” which climaxed today was attended by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the Asantehemaa, and Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the Asantehene.
Also were; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice President of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, First Lady of the Ghana, Samira Bawumia, Second Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang,Former First Lady of Ghana, Akosua Fremah Osei Opare, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, diplomats and state officials.
