Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has pleaded with the Energy commission to rescind its decision of banning second hand electrical items.
According to Chairman Wontumi, Ghana has not been spared the dire effect of the global crisis, including COVID-19, Russia-Ukraine war and currently the earthquake in Turkey. “We were still trying to get our heads out of COVID-19, when we were hit hard by the Russia-Ukraine war, which also brought many economies to a standstill including Ghana, and as government continue to work assiduously to bring our economy back to life, there’s another disaster in Turkey” he told Dasebre Agyei-Dwamena on Midday News.
“The secondhand goods have created jobs for many Ghanaians, and a total ban in such a time like this will bring untold hardship to the citizenry. We are not in normal times, and I will therefore plead with the Energy Commission, the minister for Energy, the board, and also Parliament to take a second look at the decision. Although there’s a law that backs their action, they ought to rescind it because the current atmosphere doesn’t favour such a decision at all”, he explained.
According to him, people many argue that it’s never true that Ghana could be affected by the earthquake in Turkey, forgetting that Turkey supplies several good to Europe.
