EPL: Guardiola names new Man City captain after De Bruyne’s departure

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has picked midfielder Bernardo Silva as the team’s new captain.

The Daily Mail reports Guardiola made the decision personally and did not put it to a team vote.

Silva takes over from Kevin De Bruyne after the Belgian left the Etihad on the expiration of his contract.

Guardiola has also named three vice-captains ahead of next season: Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland.

With his current contract running out next summer, Silva could end up wearing the skipper’s armband for only one season.

Although he is yet to sign a new deal with City, Silva has rejected several offers to leave in recent transfer windows.

Saudi Arabian clubs are keen on signing the Portugal playmaker, as well as his former club Benfica.
