Ghana’s Minority Leader and 3rd Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, received a warm surprise celebration today during a plenary session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja to mark his 47th birthday.

In his remarks, Hon. Afenyo-Markin expressed deep appreciation to his colleagues for the gesture, reflecting on the personal and professional journey that brought him to his current role. He shared a poignant anecdote about how his initial nomination to the ECOWAS Parliament was rejected due to Ghana exceeding its delegation quota.

Disheartened, he had left with no intention of returning. However, his name was later reinstated—a turn of events he credited to divine providence.
