“What is good for Cecilia Dapaah must be good for Sammy Gyamfi”- Walewale MP
The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, has called for swift disciplinary action against Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following the emergence of a viral video in which Gyamfi is seen handing over foreign currency, reportedly US dollars—to popular televangelist Nana Agradaa at a public event.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, May 12, Dr. Kabiru stressed that the incident highlights a growing trend of political figures publicly disbursing cash, but warned that the use of foreign currency, especially by a public official, poses serious implications for the credibility of the Ghanaian cedi and economic policy.
“This isn’t just about giving out money. It’s about how public officials conduct themselves, especially when it involves foreign currency,” Dr. Kabiru stated.
“We saw what happened with Madam Cecilia Dapaah, and the President acted decisively. Sammy Gyamfi, who has long championed anti-corruption and economic discipline, must be held to the same standard.”
Dr. Kabiru emphasized that the President’s code of conduct for public officers must be applied uniformly, regardless of political alignment or public standing. He noted that failure to act in this case would damage the government’s credibility on issues of accountability and integrity.
“We cannot measure Cecilia Dapaah on one standard and try to measure Mr. Sammy Gyamfi on a different standard, what’s good for Cecilia Dapaah must be good for Sammy Gyamfi,” he added, urging the government to demonstrate consistency in enforcing ethical behavior among its officials.
The Minority Caucus has backed Dr. Kabiru’s position, reiterating calls for an investigation into Gyamfi’s conduct and the imposition of appropriate sanctions if found culpable.
