‘If I Speak, EOCO Will Invite Her’ – Halifax Tackles GTA’s Huge Spendings On Afua Asantewaa’s Sing-A-Thon

Recently, when Afua Asantewaa was defending herself against the backlash and attacks she has faced regarding her first Sing-a-Thon attempt, she claimed that if she were to reveal her side of the story, “heads would roll.”

Afua, who feels she has been unfairly condemned for stating that she did not receive any cash donation from former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasised, “I wanted to do something for Ghana and I was in that box like a baby in her mother’s womb. I didn’t know anything. What I went through, if I want to reveal the details of that previous Sing-a-Thon, heads will roll in this country. I am being accused of things I know nothing about.”

However, popular broadcaster Halifax Ansah-Addo has responded to Afua’s comments.

Speaking on Okay FM, he stated that if he were to share what he also knows about the events surrounding the 2023 Sing-a-Thon, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) would be compelled to invite her.

“Did she say when she opens her mouth to speak about the happenings at the 2023 Sing-a-Thon, heads will roll? Me too, when I speak, EOCO will invite her,” he stated.

Buttressing his points, Halifax said aside from the GH¢20,000 cash donation from Bawumia, the amount of money the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) spent on her at that time could have paid the salaries of over 500 people.

Halifax went on to explain that the contract between the GTA and Afua Asantewaa contained substantial expenditures in the name of promoting tourism.

“If you read the contract with the GTA, you will marvel at the amount the Government of Ghana spent on her for goods and services. That money could pay the monthly salaries of 500 Ghanaians if we are going by the daily minimum wage,” he stated.

He also stated that this expenditure was separate from the GH¢20,000 Bawumia had donated.

Halifax also pointed to an invoice from the Accra City Hotel to the GTA, which disclosed that Afua Asantewaa was provided accommodation worth GH¢9,000.

“Why would Accra City Hotel, formerly Novotel, issue this receipt to the GTA? An invoice for accommodation for Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, from the 21st to 24th December 2023, and 28th to 30th December 2023. Only you stayed in a room that cost GH¢9,000?” he questioned.

Regarding Afua’s claim that she did not directly receive any cash support from former Vice President Bawumia, Halifax countered, saying, “Isn’t the cost of Bawumia transporting his car to support her more than the lozenges she said she received?”

He further criticised Afua’s recent statements about not being informed by her husband about the cash donation, suggesting discrepancies in her narrative.

“Isn’t it strange that she said her husband, who sleeps by her every night, did not inform her of the donation? It’s only when Socrate Safo and Salam exposed her that she admitted her husband and father were aware,” Halifax pointed out.
