A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Fokuo, has jumped to the defense of Chairman Wontumi, who was previously accused of engaging in illegal mining (galamsey).
Speaking on Wontumi TV with Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Fokuo argued that the recent revelation of galamsey activities in the country exposes the real culprits.
Fokuo stated that every political party has sponsors who expect returns on their investments once the party assumes power.
“Chairman Wontumi has finally been vindicated, after being wrongly accused of owning all concessions in the country and engaging in galamsey”, He expressed gratitude.
Fokuo recalled that prior to the election, Chairman Wontumi was the subject of intense criticism, with many accusing him of contributing to the destruction of forest reserves and water bodies. However, he noted that now that the NPP is no longer in power, the galamsey activities continue unabated.
Fokuo questioned whether Chairman Wontumi could be collaborating with President Mahama to perpetuate galamsey, as was previously alleged. He argued that the real galamsey kingpins are still operating in the country, and pointed to a recent viral video from Enchi, which allegedly implicated one of President Mahama’s bodyguards.
