At the Mahama Fellowships with the Clergy event held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Great Hall in the Ashanti Region, President John Dramani Mahama delivered a message on the importance of the church’s role in national discourse and the collective responsibility of building a better Ghana.

“The church has a voice that must be heard in the national discourse,” Mahama said, stressing the importance of churches in advocating for positive change in society.

He emphasized that by working together, the church, government, and other institutions can address the nation’s current social and economic challenges.

He further noted that churches can advocate for policies that uplift the poor and vulnerable, helping to build a Ghana where justice and prosperity prevail.

In a passionate charge to the men and women of God present, Mahama encouraged them not to shy away from speaking out when they see wrongdoing or injustice.

“Don’t be afraid to speak up if you see things going wrong,” he urged. Quoting a local proverb, he said, “In our language, we say, and so you who are watching can tell if the path is not going straight, it’s bending. And so if you see anything bending, don’t be afraid to tell us.” His words called for the church to be a moral compass, guiding the nation toward righteousness and justice.

“The task of creating a better Ghana is not government’s responsibility alone. It is a collective effort that requires the commitment of every institution, including the Church of Christ,” President Mahama noted.
