The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has promised to support the Chief of Alajo, Nii Armah Ajoor II, to build a lorry station inside Alajo.

This was after the chief called on the people of Alajo to come together to support him build a lorry station and a proper market inside Alajo.

Mr Dwumfour made the promise during the fifth anniversary celebration of the installation and the coronation of the Development Queen of Alajo, Naa Ayeley Osongor I, last Saturday.

Inconvenience

A former resident of Alajo, Mr Dwumfour said it was unfortunate that the area could not boast of a formal lorry station, despite the development and progress in the area, a situation that had created an inconvenience for residents.

He, therefore, gave an assurance to partner the chief to build a lorry station for the people, pledging that it would be one of the highlights of the chief’s sixth anniversary celebration.

Stewardship

Nii Armah Ajoor II was thankful to God for His protection and direction despite the challenges he had faced since his installation.

Listing some of his achievements, the chief named the construction of drains and roads, which had helped curb the threats of flooding in the area, as well as the construction of an Astroturf pitch.

Also, to his commitment to improving the quality of education in the community, he has initiated yearly quiz competitions for students to motivate them to study harder to improve their academic outcomes.

Despite the successes, he said there were a lot of things he and his elders wanted to do to uplift Alajo, placing the lorry station and a well-designed market on the priority list.

He rallied all residents of Alajo to come together to support him in undertaking the projects that would help uplift the area.

Development queen

The newly installed development queen of Alajo, Naa Ayeley Osongor I also accepted her new position wholeheartedly and expressed appreciation to the chief, queenmother, elders and the people of Alajo for welcoming and accepting her into the family.

Naa Ayeley Osongor I pledged to continue all developmental projects started in the area, as well as bring on board new initiatives, stating that her team had spoken with banks and some institutions to get capital injections for the women to invest in their businesses.

She said beyond the capital support, they would organise a financial literacy programme for the market women to help them manage their capital and profits well.

“We have already started embarking on a number of projects.

We have done skills training for the youth. We equip them with skills in making pastries, beading, soap making and others, and we will organise another one next month,” she said.
