ASHANTI REGIONAL MINISTER FAILS FIRST MINOR SECURITY TEST; COMING EVENTS CAST THEIR SHADOW - George Opoku Amponsah writes.....

The 11th of February, 2025 will go in history as black Tuesday in Ghana’s democracy as Ashanti Region fails to successfully elect a representative to the Council of State.

A simple constitutional exercise with an electoral College of just 86, sellected from all 43 administrative Districts, Municipals and a Metropolitan Assembly in the Ashanti Region was marred by a well-cordinated chaos, ostensibly by NDC hooligans at no less a venue, than the Regional Coordinating Council, the office of the Ashanti Regional Minister.

In this era of information technology where every citizen is a disguised journalist, I find the action of these enemies of democracy reprehensible.

I dare say without a shred of equivocation, that, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the over-hyped Ashanti Regional Minister has abysmally failed his first minor security test.

His inability to provide adequate security at his own backyard for such an important event, speaks volumes of the impending rioting that may characterise future elections in the Ashanti Region under his feable leadership as Minister.

I recall the alacrity with which Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, the immediate past Regional Minister supervised two of such elections in 2017 and 2021 without a fraction of the barbaric incident recorded in 2025.

My memory is refreshed again on the maturity with which Hon. Simon Osei Mensah handled the Agogo Fulani heardsmen debacle as head of then Ashanti Regional Security Council.

The hitherto rampant highway robbery of Anwia Nkwanta, Asamang, Ejura and the likes were equally handled with precision by the immediate past Regional Minister.

If you consciously carve a niche as being peerless in political thuggery and vandalism, 11th February RCC shall be your accolade.

At this point, no image redemption exercise, no propaganda, not even one with the magnitude of an intercontinental balistic misile can purge the Social Media Regional Minister of stark incompetence as coming events cast their shadows.

As a matter of public interest, the Ashanti Regional Minister must exchew complacency and assist the Police in bringing to book his party footsoldiers responsible for exposing and humiliating him less than one month in office as Ashanti Regional Minister.

I respectfully submit!
