Ashanti regional communications officer, Paul Yandoh, has criticized President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their treatment of teachers and nurses in training.
Speaking on Wontumi Morning show with Oheneba Asiedu, Yandoh vehemently criticized the NDC’s decision to cancel trainee allowances, describing it as “unfair” and “disgusting”.
Yandoh took a trip down memory lane, recalling the Mahama administration’s handling of teacher payments. He claimed that under President Mahama’s leadership, teachers who had worked for three years were only paid for three months under the “legacy arrears” program. This, Yandoh argued, demonstrates the NDC’s lack of regard for the welfare of educators.
Furthermore, Yandoh pointed out the hypocrisy of parliamentarians, including Speaker Bagbin, receiving free meals at the parliament house while trainees are denied their allowances. This, he contended, is a clear example of the NDC’s misplaced priorities.
Yandoh warned that the cancellation of trainee allowances could have far-reaching consequences, particularly with regards to the free education policy. He explained that the previous NPP government introduced free Senior High School (SHS) education by absorbing all the costs associated with secondary education. Yandoh argued that the NDC’s decision to cancel trainee allowances undermines the sustainability of the free education policy.
He urged the NDC to reconsider their decision and prioritize the needs of these critical professionals.
