Facing three (3) by-elections in the space of two (2) years was part of the difficulties lawyer Justin Kodua claims he faced in office as a newly elected General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“In less than 2 years, I had faced 3 by-elections. None of my predecessors faced this challenge. So I prayed to God and asked him why I faced this problem on my way”, he said.
Addressing his first difficulty, he mentioned that “my first test case was the by-election at Kumawu”.
During the Kumawu by-election, he spotted some troubles the party had to address.
“Most of our people didn’t want to vote there and this was a safe seat for NPP. They complained about the album”, he said.
After the Kumawu by-election which was held in May 2023, he continued that the party had to prepare in June for the Assin North by election.
The NPP in his view lost that election because the constituents raised issues of bad road and their opponent- the National Democratic Congress (NDC) used issues of LGBT against them.
Then at Ejisu during the by-election, it was mindboggling seeing the NPP suffer against an independent candidate despite the place being a safe seat for the party.
