The Delegate System Corrupted Some NPP Members And Caused Our Defeat- Former Majority Leader

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Congratulates NPP Parliamentary Candidates

The former Member of Parliament for Suame, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has attributed his party defeat in the 2024 general elections, largely to the delegate system the party operated.

The seasoned MP in a one-on-one interview on Wontumi TV, stated that he had in the past called on the executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to change strategy.

“I have been talking about it for the past 10 years”, he said and added that the delegate system corrupted people in the party.

He firmly stated that if the system is not wiped out, it would get to a time people in the NPP would demand for cars before voting.

“If we don’t take care it will corrupt the system and  people will request for cars before voting, that is where we are heading to. During national election, people don’t demand money before they vote for Mahama, Akufo-Addo, Kufour or Bawumia. This is because of the sheer numbers”, he said.

Firing National Officers

He put in a word that he disagrees with people calling for the heads of national officers because the party lost the 2024 general elections.

“They may have their flaws including myself”, he said and urged the party to rather conduct an investigation into the matter rather than calling for the indiscriminate sacking of party officers.

“We ought to investigate the cause of our defeat, it may lead to the reform of our part structures”, he advised.
