The Office of the Special Prosecutor(OSP) says it has commenced a preliminary investigation into the viral memo that suggests Member of Parliament for Asokwa Hon Patricia Appiagyei rejected a fund that was allegedly handed to her as fee of participation in the just ended ministerial vetting.
The memo is purported to be from Hon Appiagyei, which states, she rejected a GH¢70,000 fee handed to her by the Minority Chief Whip, Hon Frank Annoh Dompreh as an advance for her participation in the just ended vetting of three Supreme Court judges and two Ministerial nominees.
In the memo, the Member of Parliament is alleged to have questioned the source of the funds and rejected it.
In a press release dated September 4, 2026, the OSP said it had taken notice of the viral memo and had gone ahead to commence it’s preliminary investigation into it.
The office said given the nature of the incident and the role the Appointments Committee plays, it is best it intervenes.
“Given the constitutional importance of the Appointments Committee of Parliament and the need to safeguard the integrity of the vetting process, and taking into consideration the content of the document to the effect that Hon. Patricia Appiagyei purportedly cast doubt on the source of the alleged funds and that it had the hallmarks of extortion of the nominees, the OSP has commenced preliminary investigation into the veracity of the document, the source of the alleged funds, and the purpose of the alleged funds,” the statement said.
The OSP added it had extended an invitation to the MP for her to go and answer questions for role in the incident.
“To this effect, the OSP has dispatched a communication inviting Hon. Patricia Appiagyei to attend the OSP and assist it with the preliminary investigation,” the office said.
The office assured the public it is “actively investigating all extortion allegations involving Members of Parliament.”
