Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has narrated how he played a key role in helping his father secure a meeting with the World Bank’s president after years of unsuccessful attempts.
In an interview shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on September 4, 2026, Davido explained that despite his father’s repeated efforts to meet the World Bank president, it was ultimately through him that the meeting was made possible.
According to Davido, following his performance at the 2022 World Cup, he met the then-World Bank President, David Malpass, who approached him and noted that he was impressed by the tournament’s theme song.

He explained that following the compliment, he hurriedly called his father so the two could schedule a meeting, something he said his father had been waiting for a long time.
“My dad has a lot of friends in high places. He’s been trying to look for the president of the World Bank… but he was in the hotel and he said he enjoyed the performance.
“And I called my father that I was with the president of the World Bank. He was like, ‘Give him the phone.’ Just like that,” he said.
