Following His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie’s tour of State Owned Enterprises(SEOs) and his comments on advancing the President’s agenda, the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in a press release has told him to solve the problems of the Judiciary and leave the executive alone.
The Chief Justice said, “the old man’s(Mahama) agenda is one that will benefit Ghana. We should do everything to ensure that he succeeds.”
He made the comment when he talked about the efficiency of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and a further comparison of now and the last eight years during a tour.
His comments have raised several eyebrows, as many have said it carries a tone of partiality.
The NPP have also joined the fray not only condemning the comments but also telling the Chief Justice, to focus on the matters that affects his office.
They raised issues of deteriorated Court houses, overworked Judicial staff and other things which affect the Judiciary.
“We cannot overlook the ironical part of all these developments: that several courts and offices of the Judiciary lie in disarray: courtrooms crumbling, registries overwhelmed and staff labouring under conditions that directly affect justice delivery.”
“He has not visited a single one of these ailing courts to assess their deplorable state, nor raised his voice for their retooling and refurbishment,” they added.
The party advised him to focus on the problems. They told him, “the leaking roofs are in your courts, not in the ministries.”
They were worried about the Chief Justice’s postering as his comments seem to validate their opinion that he is working for the NDC adding he has not been able to deliver any reforms in the Judiciary, but is bent on shutting down the voices of the opposition.
“He has delivered no reforms to improve justice delivery and no relief for the litigant strangled by delay; his one visible programme has been the hatchet job of targeting opposition voices. A Chief Justice whose legacy is persecution rather than reform has forfeited every claim to the confidence of the nation,” the party said.
